In this article, I will state the reasons/causes for the problem “request failed due to fatal device hardware error” including the solution to all of them. Whenever the message “request failed due to fatal device hardware error” occurs it means the hard drive of the SSD card in your computer is physically damaged. Solution 1 - Check the Connection.

Sometimes the errors may occur due to damaged port or USB cable. So, try connecting your pc with some other port or another USB device for transferring the data or files amongst your pc and some external hardware device.


Solution 2 - Verifying the Hard Drive Through Some Smart Techniques.


This is another option for the solution. It is an in-built windows feature that helps you check your hard disk's health. 


For doing so the steps are as follows:


Step 1 – press windows + S.

Step 2 – type command prompt.

Step 3 – right click on any of the application and tap on run as administrator.

Step 4 – after going through command prompt, execute from the given below command.

Till here, if the functions are normal then you can go through the methods thoroughly.


Solution 3 - Update the External Hard Drive.


In order to fix the issue saying “fatal device hardware error” caused by usage of outdated driver, you need to update the driver using the device manager. For doing so, kindly go through the steps.


Step 1 – Press windows + R, both the keys together.

Step 2 – then type “devmgmt.msc”.



Step 3 – press Enter.

Step 4 – while going through the device manager, search for the external drive.

Step 5right click on it and select update driver software.

Step 6 – select the “search automatically for updated software”.

After functioning with all the steps, wait for the processing.


Solution 4 - Format the Hard Disk.


Even after so many trials, if there’s no proper result coming out of anywhere for the problem “request failed due to fatal device hardware device”, format the disk driver.


Solution 5 - Replace the External Hard Drive.




Last but not the least, in case, the above solutions don’t function accordingly, then replace the driver. If there are important files that are needed, then transfer all of the to another driver.
